Merino wool with RWS Certification
From sheep to our warehouse - and then to your hat - the entire production chain involved with .KOPYTO. has been officially certified with the highest Textile Exchange certification: RWS - Responsible Wool Standard. Certified products are marked in the store - with the addition of "RWS" in the name.
What is the RWS Standard?
The RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certificate is a voluntary global standard from Textile Exchange that concerns the entire wool production and supply chain - from the welfare of animals, through controlled quality of grazing lands, humane shearing processes on farms, and later transportation, to the manufacturing of the final product, which in our case are primarily hats and other woolen accessories.
The international norm not only applies to breeding places, but also to wool producers, from whom the yarn comes, as well as to workshops, and in the final stage to distributors of finished products, i.e., stores where consumers shop. As a conscious and ethical brand, we have decided to obtain confirmation that the products we offer do not contribute to the degradation of the environments from which they originate.
Breeding requirements - how sheep, which produce wool for our/your hat, are treated.
At the breeding stage, the implementation of the five freedoms principle is required. It concerns ensuring functioning devoid of:
- discomfort
- pain
- hunger and thirst
- disease
- fear and suffering
Animals must also demonstrate the ability to exhibit natural behaviors.
Controlled wool origin is a guarantee of an ethical production process, which has been important to us since the very beginning of the brand's existence. No longer just mulesing free - RWS is a higher level when it comes to textile standards.
What is the RWS verification process like?
To obtain the certificate, as a company producing merino wool beanies, clothes and accesories, we had to demonstrate that each of our subcontractors meets the specified rigorous requirements. The process is transparent and open, and has been developed in cooperation with experts in agriculture, animal welfare, and species protection.
By choosing products marked with RWS, we choose conscious consumption, respecting animal rights and an ethical approach to the exploitation of global resources.
What does the RWS certificate provide & its role in global wool production.
RWS plays an important role in building awareness. Its detailed guidelines and rigorous standards are a kind of collection of best practices and rules of conduct for sheep breeders and the entire textile industry.
It is also a guarantee of ethical production in professional social relations - the certificate requires ensuring safety and hygiene at work, as well as fair employment conditions for people working in textile production.
